Grand National

The Grand National

With the jumps season entering its latter stages that means one of the biggest races worldwide is fast approaching, The Grand National, now this race isn’t everyone’s cup of tea reasons being too many horses, too many fences or a distance that is too far, but it’s a race that captivates the nation with families across the country tuning in to watch the spectacle.

Everyone has a different way of picking their horse for the National, many choose to go for the names of the horses or the colours of the silks worn by the jockies, some people me included try and study the race which isn’t easy as it only takes one horse to make a mistake in front of your so called “dead cert” and it’s curtains.

Last year the race was won by the little horse that is Tiger Roll, and he’s currently the 7/2 market leader as he looks to become the first horse since Red Rum to win back to back Nationals, but it won’t be an easy task with 39 other runners and 30 obstacles for them to negotiate just over 4 Miles, on paper he is the classiest horse in the race and looks a different horse this season, for me if he manages to get around safely he will win.

Other than the tiger there’s a couple of others that I fancy, those being Vintage Clouds currently 12/1 in places, he missed the race last year by 1, after missing out he then went on to run a very good 3rd in the Scottish National, more recently he was seen running a very close 2nd in the Ultima at the Cheltenham festival, stable vibes are very strong about him and I’m expecting a big race.

My 2nd selection would be Rock the Kasbah currently 20/1, the Phillip Hobbs trained 9 year old hasn’t been seen since finishing 6th at Cheltenham back in mid December, the time before that was also at Cheltenham  where he finished 1st in the BetVictor handicap chase, he goes well fresh so the 4 month break should help plus he will be getting a nice weight.

But no matter who you decide to go for the main thing is that all the horses and jockeys come home safe and sound.
