New kids on the block

It was an action packed week with a couple of big clashes, we will start off at Ascot with the Christy 1965 chase, it was Cyrname that come home in front taking away Altior’s unbeaten record over obstacles. The race went as expected with Cyrname making the running and Altior just following him around, it didn’t really get going till the home turn where Harry Cobden booted Cyrname into the last 2 fences and on to victory. After the race both sets of connections said that the King George on Boxing Day at Kempton was still the target with Cyrname after the win now being the fav for that race (9/4) and Altior (5/1). Both of them will still have questions to answer, Cyrname needs to prove he can do it away from Ascot, while Altior needs to bounce back and show he can get 3m, saying that I wouldn’t be surprised to see Altior back over 2m.
The next race on the card was the Ascot Hurlde, which looked competitive on paper but ended up being a two horse race between Call Me Lord and If The Cap Fits with the race going to the latter by half a length. It was a good performance from If The Cap Fits who also won this race last year, but this year her was giving Call Me Lord in 2nd 6lbs. His next race looks to be back at Ascot where he will face current Stayer Hurdle winner Paisley Park, whether or not he will be good enough to give Paisley Park anything to think of only time will tell.
The 3:20 Handicap chase, saw the two horses who caused some controversy few weeks ago lock horns again, these being the Nicholls pair in Capeland and Diego Du Charmil. This time they both complete and it was Capeland that came out on top winning with ease and 12 lengths. It makes you wonder what would of happened if Diego Du Charmil hadn’t of took him out last time they met, if anything it shows he would of been very close to him.

Over at Haydock we had the Betfair chase with Bristol De Mai aiming for his third success in this race, but this wasn’t to as he was denied by the very exciting Lostintranslation. It was a strange ride by Robbie Power leaving him right at the back, but he came there full of running two out and then took up the lead where he stayed on well, no easy task beating Bristol De Mai on his home ground. This has now shot him to the top off the Gold Cup market (7/2) but his next race looks to be the King George which is all set up to be one of the races of the year.

Over in Ireland on the Thursday is was good to seen Footpad get back to winning ways and in impressive fashion, he seemed to lose his way last year and didn’t jump all to well, but this was put right on Thursday as he jumped well and won with ease.
On the Saturday at Gowran we say the chase debut of Laurina, she won impressively beating the Albert Bartlett winner Minella Indo by 8 lengths. Was a good performance which has put her back to the top of the Arkle market (4/1) but personally i fell she would be more suited to a JLT for which she is (7/1).
Also at Gowran Getabird made his seasonal reappearance and in winning fashion, he wasn’t impressive but the main thing was that he got his head in front and can now possibly kick on from this.

Only a short one today, thanks for taking the time to read this, got a brilliant weeks racing to look forward to with the Newbury Winter Carnival on the Friday and Saturday, as well as the Fighting Fifth Hurlde at Newcastle, plus the Winter Festival at Fairyhouse.
